Dynamic or Dependent Drop Down List / VBA RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm trying to make a last minute decision to integrate tasks from Xmind mind maps into either Project or Excel for greater control. Project gives me a really nice UI for both indenting of tasks and for gantt. Both of these are a trade of in Excel, but Excel is so much better supported for VBA, and appears more flexible programmatically.

    My question is:

I can create dynamic or dependent drop downs in excel relatively easily. Is there any way to do this in Project without resorting to user forms? I want to work quickly and efficiently in Project, using perhaps custom fields to change their drop down contents dependent on another column's contents for a given task. For instance, I may have a custom field with a drop down list containing, "Family, Work, Hobbies", and another custom field which drops down different lists when I click on it relevant to whichever of those 3 I chose.

If anyone has any insight or suggestions, I'd be sooooo grateful! I'm not even asking for code examples per say, just to know that it can be done so I make a choice about how to begin my MSXML import work relevant to either Project or Excel.

    Thanks! David
