Hmmm - the SLIC table says Gateway, while the BIOS says eMachines - while both companies are owned by Acer, they don't usually cross-identify in this way.Was the motherboard supplied by Gateway, or by eMachines - or is it a second-hand or refurb replacement? The 0xC004F00F error is a 'hardware out of tolerance' error, which would indicate that he motherboard is significantly different to the original one, and this has tripped the activation request.I suggest that you use telephone activation and see if they can help.To activate by phone, click on the Start button
in the Search box, type
SLUI 4
and hit the Enter key
elect your country, and follow the instructions - you will get an automated service, do NOT respond when asked which service you require - this should force an operator to pick up, who can assist you.

Hello duke_nuklid,
I'm not seeing a specific cause for the issue which usually suggests that Vista's Licensing Store may have become corrupt or it's data may be messed up in some way.
Please try the below steps to recreate the Store and it's data.
1) Open an Internet Browser window.
2) Type: %windir%\system32 into the browser address bar.
3) Find the file CMD.exe
4) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select 'Run as Administrator'
5) Type: net stop slsvc (it may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
6) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing
7) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
8) Type: cd %windir%\system32
9) Type: net start slsvc
10) Type: cscript slmgr.vbs -rilc (It may take a long time for this to complete, please be patient)
11) Restart your computer twice.
12) You may be required to enter the Product Key and/or Activate.Thank you,

Went through the steps. It said the license was rewritten, but I still have the same problem. It says that it is invalid. Looking at the information the Produce key looks correct. Can"t see the first 2 set of numbers of course. The product key is what the System is showing.Wednesday, December 22, 2010 9:19 PM
