Microsoft Office Validiation needed or not needed? RRS feed

  • Question

  • okay, so one day i was typing on word and suddenly this pop up comes up, and i just do what usually do to a pop up, just X it out.
then the next day, it gives me a countdown of days i have until validation.

Question 1: Is it required for every Microsoft Office user to validate their Microsoft Office? Is it optional?
Question 2: If we don't validate and the countdown gets to 0 days, what happens?

because, i "broke" my laptop the other day (yes i dropped it) and i sent it off to the shop to get fixed.

& when that countdown hits zero probably I won't have my laptop by then. What happens then?

  • Hello Therealnoob,

The OGA Notifier was notifiying you that is has determined that the installation of Microsoft Office on your computer is nongenuine.  I'm sure it presented an explanation for its conclusion.

Part of the Notifier is a countdown to add a little bit of urgency to the situation.  If you do not take steps to correct the nongenuine situation, then after a certain number of days, the installation of Office will be "marked" as nongenuine.  Office installations that are marked as nongenuine get an additonal menu choice that presents solutions for correcting the nongenuine situation, as well as periodic reminders on your screen about the nongenuine Office situation.  The product itself does not lose any functionality, and absolutley, positively no data is lost.
