Windows 7 Professional Genuine Error After Restart RRS feed

  • Question

  • Computer was frozen and couldn't be accessed so I restarted it remotely to see if that would fix it.

That fixed one problem so I can now access the computer again, however it's now saying that the copy of Windows isn't genuine.

As far as I'm aware, the computer has been running fine with a genuine copy of Windows for years.

  • Interesting, the error here appears to be an Out Of Memory one - which I don't recall seeing in something like 10,000 activation threads!

To be honest, I have no idea what might cause this - but it could be some form of corruption.

First I would try checking the SMART status of your hard drive  (if that fails, then replace the hard drive!)- then run CHKDSK  and SFC /SANNOW to try and fix any disk corruption

  • If this is still a problem (or others have this problem with System Builder installs)

Presuming internet access, open an elevated command prompt and run this:

    slmgr.vbs -ato

If it works, great, otherwise post into here what the error is.
