What am I supposed to do? RRS feed

  • Question

  • My Windows XP came preinstalled on a Gateway computer. Something happened to it, and I had the computer repaired. The repairman was given all the CDs that I received from Gateway and reinstalled everything. Now all of a sudden I start getting these messages that my Windows XP is not genuine.  Why should I pay money to get a new copy?  My warranty with Gateway is out of date, so they won't even talk to me on the phone.  I am not going to pay $150.00 to get a product key for a program that I legitamately purchased when I purchased my computer.  What am I supposed to do?  I can't get updated Media Player or anything because of this, and it is not my fault and has nothing to do with me.

  • Use your original Gateway Windows XP recovery CD and perform a "clean install". See:
