Problems with*.mny file permissions RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've been running Money (UK version) for over 10 years and have been using the 2005 version successfully. Against my better judgement I decided to install the sunset version, as I was having some problems with Help files no longer being available.  On trying to open my money file, I was firstly told that I couldn't open it because my Windows Live ID was incorrect.  I sorted this out by changing the password several times and then going back to the original one.  However, I was then told that the *.mny file would be upgraded to a new format and a backup copy made.  This failed to happen because I was then told the file was a read only file or I didn't have permission to open it.  I have completely uninstalled the sunset version and reinstalled Money 2005, but I'm still coming up with the same error message.  Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to persuade Money to open the file it was using until 24 hours ago?

I don't know if anyone from Microsoft ever patrols these sites, but I would just point out that this is probably the single most useful program I have ever used and I cannot think why it was axed.

  • Sunset will not open a UK Money file. It needs the US Money file format.

You need to apply Money 2005 UK - QFE2 to update Money 2005 to version

Read and search forum posts before posting a question. It is unlikely that you are the first to encounter a problem. The first, sticky post in this forum would have pointed you to this solution. There are many other posts on the same subject.

  • Mea Culpa, Mea Maxima Culpa - Although I've had a pretty good second look and nothing seems to fit the problem I was describing.  However, the fix you suggested worked - so thanks a lot.

  • This is a really old thread!  The original poster had several problems.  I suggest that you start a new thread and describe just what problem you are having.  Be sure to give:

      - the version of Money that you are using

      - the exact error message you are receiving

      - was Money working and then stopped?

      - did you make some change just before that happened?

Note that the original poster was using UK Money 2005 and tried to open his file with US Money US Sunset.  That won't work.  The file formats are different for different regions.

Here was the answer that worked for Andrew:

Sunset will not open a UK Money file. Sunset needs the US Money file format.

You need to install Money 2005 UK - QFE2 to update Money 2005 UK to version See what is currently the second sticky post in this forum to get a link to the installation file.
