Partions HD and only uses 20 Gigs RRS feed

  • Question

  • I load WHS on my comp. however it partitions my hard drive into 2 sections. the first is a 20 gig section, in which loads the OS. the second is the remainder of the HD. did i do something wrong or is it supposed to do that?

  • No, the second drive won't become bootable. You probably added a 300 GB drive, right? The way the manufacturer states storage, that drive is 300 GB. The way every OS on the planet measures it, it's around 279 GB.

  • I also just got into the RC and have not found the answer to this related question.

The 20gig system is cool...I add a second HD and I notice 20gig is also used after adding the HD to WHS.

This is probaly a stupid and else-where answered question but does the missing 20gig mean if I lose the 1st physical HD that the second will become bootable for recovery?

Added a 320 and bingo I should have realized that, question answered...too bad in a way, would have been nice if it did become bootable for a restore.
