Vista validation problem RRS feed

  • Question

  • This morning I began receiving an error that my Windows software might be pirated.  Following instructions I have run "net start slsvc" and got this error:
The Software Licensing service is starting.
The Software Licensing service could not be started.
    A system error has occurred.
    System error 5 has occurred.
    Access is denied.

I tried starting the Software Licensing services through services.msc and  this is the error that comes up:
Windows could not start the Software Licensing service on Local Computer
    Error 0x80070005: Access is denied.

I downloaded and ran the MGA Diag tool and here are the results:

Is there some way to fix this?

  • Hi golden mesa,

We have found that there are actually a number of different types of the "Software Licensing Service has stopped (and won't restart)" issue. We clasify them by what error message the user gets whe he/she tries to restart the service.

We do have a fix (and a root cause) for the "System error 3" type. But we do not yet have a fix for the "System error 5" type.

If you are willing, I would like to have my Engineer contact you directly to troubleshoot your "System error 5" type "Software Licensing Service has stopped (and won't restart)" issue.

To do this, we will need you to go to http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52029 and create a (no cost) Service Request and then post the SR's Confirmation Number in this thread. (Be sure to include, in your SR, an email address and/or a phone number that we can contact you at).

    Thank you!,
    Darin MS
