Hello texasgal63,
Based on your report and what Noel wrote in his response, I'd say you probably unknowingly had a nongenuine installation of Office Enterprise 2007 on your Dell XPS computer, and after seeing the nongenuine notices, you purchased and installed Office Home and Student 2007 to correct the problem.
Now you're kinda stuck in between the old nongenuine Office and the new installation of Office H&S 2007.
If that's a good guess, here's what to do:
From the Programs applet in control panel, uninstall Office Enterprise 2007. Restart twice.
Next, from the All Programs menu, choose Microsoft Office and then Word 2007. When Word opens up, the activation wizard should start. If prompted, enter the Product Key from the yellow-orange "Proof of License" label found inside the retail package for Office H&S 2007. Then follow the prompts to activate online normally. If activation goes OK, restart.
Next go to www.microsoft.com/genuine and click on the Validate Office button and your genuine retail license for Office H&S 2007 should Validate normally.
Finally, open up Windows Update from the Start Menu, set Windows Update to get Updates for other Microsoft products (such as Office), then run Windows Update as many times as needed until it tells you there are no more updates.
Post back to let us know how you did :-)

While your Windows is apparently OK (notwithstanding your Subject), you have a non-genuine installation of Office Enterprise. The Invalid VLK message means that the Key in use for this install was not generated by MS, but by a hacker's KeyGen program. You need to uninstall it, and install a legitimate copy of Office, if you intend to keep on using Office. If you bought the product in good faith, you may be able to either claim a full refund from the vendor, or get a complementary copy of Office from MS - look here for detailsNote that you appear to also have a copy of Office Home & Student installed that has not been activated - if you don't require the additional functionality (e.g. Outlook/Access) of the Professional version, you may be able to activate that.
