Windows 7 User Profile Corruption/System slowness post Update RRS feed

  • Question

  • I run Windows Home 7 Premium on my Dell N7110 Laptop, and last week, I ran an update check, which told me I needed to install 17 updates.  Lo and Behold, the updating process froze, and killed the laptop. Would not even start.

So, I ran the Startup Repair disc (since it would not even start in Safe Mode), and repaired the startup.

Now, the splash screen shows up as 640 x 480, and once I sign in, the Welcome Screen sits forever, before accessing the User Profile Sign-In.

Once I DO sign in, the User Profile takes me to a temporary User Profile, telling me that mine is not recognized.

I have read the "Fix a corrupted User Profile" sheet on Microsoft's Website, but the instructions are useless, since none of the file names listed in the article for a Windows 7 User Profile appear in ANY of the working User Profiles on my computer (I currently have the Admin profile [not working], a new one I have created as a standard profile [not an admin profile] and a guest profile.    Only the New Profile and the Admin Profile show up on the User Profile sign-in screen, and I cannot tell from that article whether the new profile should have been an admin profile or not.

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!!  ALL I WANT TO DO IS RECOVER THE OLD PROFILE AND GO ABOUT MY BUSINESS!  I AM EVEN FAIRLY TECH SAVVY, SO IT IS NOT THAT I AM INCOMPETENT....I SWEAR!   HELP!
