Your HP notebook computer has two installations of Office:  a nongenuine volume licensing installation of Office Professional Plus 2007 and a genuine installation of Office Home and Student 2007.

Which of these is the one you are referring to in your original post when you write, "purchased Office w/ sealed box, complete w/ product key & certificate of authenticy"

  • Hello copperdon,

Your installation of Office Professional Plus 2007 on your HP notebook computer is a nongenuine installation.  It is a volume licensing installation that was done with an Invalid Volume Licensing Key.  An Invalid Volume Licensing Product Key is one that was generated by software pirates using a program called a key generator, or KeyGen for short.  This product key was never officially issued by Microsoft, making it Invalid.

Normally, legitimate users of Volume Licensing editions of Office are associated with larger business, educational, or governmental organizations.  If that's you, please contact your organization's IT support staff for further assistance.

If your use of this installation of Office Professional Plus 2007 is not associated with a larger business, educational, or governmental organization, and you purchased the installed copy of Office Professional Plus 2007 thinking that it was a retail license for Office Professional 2007 to be sold to individual consumers, it is likely that you are a victim of software piracy and/or counterfeiting.  As an individual consumer, you should never have been sold Volume Licensing (VL) materials such as the VL installation disc and you certainly should not have received a Invalid Product Key.  You should have been sold Genuine retail licensed software.

If so, your first course of action is to confront your seller with this information and demand a full refund.

If the seller refuses to help, please file a piracy report at www.microsoft.com/piracy.  Also, depending upon whether you received "high quality" counterfeit materials, you may qualify for the Office Complimentary Offer or for the Office Genuine Advantage discounted offer.  Please see the FAQ here:  http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/FAQ.aspx?displaylang=en#ID0EKNAC  If you think that you qualify for the Genuine Office Offer, apply for the Offer thru the Learn More Online link that the OGA Notifier is displaying.

If you uninstall the nongenuine Office Professional Plus 2007 and rerun Validation at www.microsoft.com/genuine, we would expect that the remaining Office, Office H&S 2007, should validate normally as Genuine.  However, before you uninstall Pro Plus, be sure to complete the reporting process as the process will not run if there is no nongenuine Office installed.

  • Thanks for the info.  I am talking about the Office Professional Plus 2007.  I thought this was a single licensing and was complete.

    What do you suggest?

    Thanks
