Gotomypc vs. live mesh remoting

Question
-
a) gotomypc is fast, very fast compared to live mesh remote desktop. With live mesh i have to sit there waiting for blocks of the screen to draw, with gotomypc its just there and smooth, you can even play a game over it that uses 3d acceleration.
b) file transfer without making some mesh folder. I would like to transfer a directory like i can in gotomypc or a ftp client, 1 time only while in session.
c) don't log out the desktop after connection or at least make it an option not to. Sometimes I use the remoting to control my desktop or laptop from eachother just feet apart. Its annoying to have to relog in after a session.
These changes planned so we can stop paying gotomypc?Wednesday, July 30, 2008 7:14 PM

Hi,
We are definitely working hard to improve the Live Mesh Remote Desktop experience. We're also glad to hear suggestions from our customers about ways to make Live Mesh even better. If you have not done so already, please feel free to add your suggestions to our Wish List.
Thanks,

Check also www.logmein.com. It's free unlike gotomypc.
LiveMesh is not ready yet to compete with this established platforms in remote desktop feature.Wednesday, July 30, 2008 8:41 PM -
The screen draw 1 block at a time is a big problem. Someone from MS contacted me, claimed they know what the problem was and it was fixed, but it's not.
Also, the File Transafer doesn't work, and I don't know why.

And what about PC File Transfer? Recently I downloaded a trial version of it. This program has the functionality to be able to log in and control a home computer to complete simple tasks.Tuesday, July 14, 2009 5:50 AM

There are actually many options for remote control of a PC. Another from Microsoft is Live Sync that provides this capability. And, if you have a Windows Home Server, you can use RDP from the Home Server to PCs on the local LAN as long as Remote Desktop is supported. (Home server respects the OS feature use, so XP Home and Vista Home don't allow incoming RDP sessions).

Just a comment as I test Live Mesh. I think Microsoft is sitting on a GOLD MINE! If you can fine tune Live Mesh to function equivalent to GoToMyPC (ie. function with high-performance remote desktop, etc.) and advertise it as secure using the latest security or innovate something into the VPN to make it even safer, and advertise it softly as a free option for using Windows 7, it will encourage people to upgrade to Windows 7. After all, why pay the rip off price I have been paying for unrelaible GoToMyPC to Citrix for years. If anyone has a monopoly in this area it is Citrix not Microsoft! We need some competition from someone who can offer a SECURE and high performance solution option and from someone with a trusted name, namely Microsoft!
Who knows who logmein is? I doubt Enterprise like Healthcare would trust them with identity of hospital patients.
Not even Apple has anything like this, this is why Citrix just put out a Mac version, and as a beta tester I can tell you it stinks, and their reply to areas of improvement was not we will fix all of them, but rather A VOTE of beta testers to see WHICH ONE they should fix!
I can tell you there are so many people out there that connect to work or home, Moms, Dads, People on the go, that if this was an optional download for Windows 7 it would further incentivise Enterprises (and people in general) to make the switch to Windows 7, and not have to deal with Citrix.
I would even have the Mac BU or you guys create a Mac OS version.
Keep working guys!! Let's make this the Microsoft iTunes (well, maybe not that popular:)).
Thanks.
PS. I don't think this can become another "Netscape" with Microsoft coming along and building in a free internet explorer. As long as it is not part of the operating system, but a free optional download service, no one can argue they did not allow the end user to make a choice. They just have to advertise this well as a new free and secure remote access service for Windows 7!
Education and/or inovation on how to prevent botnets from phishing more naive users and security to prevent interception in airports and internet cafes needs to be included.Saturday, February 13, 2010 6:12 PM
