  • I will start by thanking you for the great job you do in helping people achieve their goal in becoming certified professionals. I am a student in my second year at a computer science faculty in Romania and I must say that I REALLY appreciate the part this community plays in the training of future professionals. Here we lack such great people because the general population is of the opinion that new technologies are difficult (some “professionals” say “The older the better because it lasted”) but I do not agree. I want to become a Microsoft certified professional in more than one domain but I cannot really find the necessary resources. In my faculty, the most advanced programming language we study is C and I think they will not change that very soon. I love C# so my faculty cannot really help me with that and all the job openings require technologies that are more recent.

My question: Are there any student programs related to Microsoft certifications that might help me? I mean programs that help students with their training without having to wait for other more “professional” people to realize that they need to move on.

I have starter one month ago learning for the Exam 70-536 so I can achieve the MCTS: .NET Framework 3.5, Windows Forms Applications certification  but I find it to be very difficult as materials are very expensive. I managed to get my hands on some of the published books (a friend bought them for me from Germany, as they are not available at all in Romania) but courses or e-Learning is completely unavailable to me as they are way over my budget.

Can you point out some resources that might help students in their training?

I’ll make sure that I spread the word that Microsoft’s certification team is great, if not the best as that is the truth. You not only help us get answers but really change our life by guiding us to certification and to proving that we can do the jobs that we intend to do.

    Tons of respect and gratitude

I am surprised that no one has yet answered your question and I will do my best to help you out.
Generally the cost of getting your certifications can be somewhat high, depending on your own interest and will to learn. I am sure that on ebay you can manage to find used books at a lower cost than what amazon charges. The certification fee can not be avoided, and that is probably a couple of hundred dollars, depending on your training centre.

If I understand correcly, you are more interested in programming than the more technical classes?
Either way, you should take a look at this place: http://learning.microsoft.com
There you can find classes, prices and so on.

Hope this helped you out a little and good luck!

I don't think this follows the certification path exactly on the developer side but there are quite a few resources for different languages on this page:

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/beginner/bb308786.aspx

Since you specifically mentioned C# there is a a Visual C# resource page at: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/beginner/aa700774.aspx

It has a list of learning sites that might help.

    Good luck in your quest!
