Windows not genuine RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have been using the computer since May 2012 with no issues. Now I have "windows not genuine" message. I ran CHKDSK and SFC per another post in this forum. Here are the results of MGA diag after CHKDSK and SFC. I do not have the product key anymore either. Any ideas would be appreciated.

The -065- portion of your Product Key indicates that it is a leaked MSDN Subscription Key.  In order to get an MSDN subscription, you need to sign agreements with Microsoft.  Then they allow you access to keys that are to be used ONLY for the purpose for which they were intended.  Those keys are NOT for resale and NOT supposed to be distributed.  When those keys are "activated" enough times, Microsoft will ban them from further use.  That might take over a year before a particular one is banned.  But the effect is the same - the counterfeit installation is then flagged as non-genuine.

  • Please first try recreating Licensing Store.

    Recreate the Licensing Store

Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories

Right-Click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator - accept the UAC prompt

Run the following commands in the Command Prompt window, using the Enter key at the end of each

    net stop sppsvc

(wait until the service has stopped before entering the following lines)

    CD %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform

    REN tokens.dat tokens.bar

    net start sppsvc

    slui.exe

After a couple of seconds the Windows Activation dialog will appear.

You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key, or Activation may occur automatically.

If you are asked for your Key, use the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case

Reboot and Post back with a new MGADiag report.

(Note: the Line 'CD %win......\SoftwareProtectionPlatform' is all on one line - it may be broken in the Forum listing)

  • Thanks for your help. Guess it's a lesson learned as I did not get a COA or DVD, only restore discs which appear to be no help. May I ask can I buy a new windows OEM edition or does it have to be retail. I have found both on sites such as amazon, etc.

  • Do not buy Windows from Ebay or Craigslist or via Amazon, period.  99% if the time it will be counterfeit.  Personally I would demand a refund from the seller with the intent of reporting them to Microsoft for selling pirated software.  Here is the link to do so: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/howtotell/cfr/report.aspx

Then buy a retail version of the OS from a reputable source.  The Microsoft Store is a good place to start.

  • Ok so I purchased Windows 7 Ultimate from a retailer. What I got was OEM version as thats all they had and was told it would work fine. It came with a COA. I installed it using the upgrade option. I still get "windows not valid" message. When I try to use the like to go online and resolve it now says "class not registered" which it did not do before. Here are the results of MGA diag tool. The product key seems to be the same as the COA.

  • Thanks for your help. After the last cmd prompt, (slui.exe) I get the ot genuine window with a link to "go online and resolve" but when I try a "class not registered message appears. Also after MGA Diag I get "failed to create output files" error. I am guessing these results are from last time I posted?

  • That looks better - You need to use Telephone Activation now....

    telephone activation (operator calls)

    Click on the Start button

    in the Search box, type

    SLUI   4

    and hit the Enter key

follow the instructions, but when asked which service you require by the telephone ansafone, do NOT reply - this should force an operator to respond, who can deal with you

  • Before giving up for the night I tried 1 more time. Starting with cmd prompts. This time I got the normal activation window. Windows activated itself fine and all is well. Not sure why but it really doesn't matter now does it. Thanks for your help Noel. I appreciate it.
