Restore UI needs some help RRS feed

  • Question

  • I noticed a few things with the restore:

    1) The launchpad does not directly give the ability to access the restores.  It seems obvious to me to make the backup dialog have a link/button to swap to a restore view

    2) Restoring is by volume.  Once you select a volume, there is no "back" button, so you must basically start over, quitting out, and going back to open the restore feature.

    3) Perhaps this is minor, but I would personally like to see how long backup jobs took and related stats (number of files/folders backed up, etc)

    4) Backups do not seem to have very good compression or any compression.  Is this on purpose?  The only space savings seems to be from the server not backup up client computer pagefiles and whatnot

    Overall, interesting product.

Relying on Remote Desktop Apps seems to work, but the latency is a little high.  I have an Intel Atom D510 with single 320GB HDD, 2GB RAM with the beta installed.  My desktop is a C2D w/ 4GB RAM.  The network is a gigabit wired switch.  My guess is that it may be worth considering something like the RSAT tools where the windows clients could connect to the dashboard in that manner.

Another observation is that I think you should consider allowing Windows Home Server to join a domain.

    Thanks,

    John
