Hello, you may be using an older Cd which did not support Vista installation. Download the One Care trial - http://onecare.live.com/standard/en-us/3/default.htm then see this Microsoft Knowledge Base article on how to activate your subscription - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935899

Does this mean I have to buy another version? There isn't any other way to fix this?Thursday, January 15, 2009 7:27 PM

The CD only contains an installer. The actual installation comes from the servers.
So, install from http://onecare.live.com and then after the install is complete, you open OneCare and click the link to Subscribe. Sign in with a LiveID (http://account.live.com - you used a LiveID to sign in here to post) and select the option to subscribe/active with a retail PIN or key. Use the 25 character PIN on the yellow sticker on the back of the CD tray inside the retail package.
So, no, you do not need to buy another copy - you have a valid key if it has never been used before.
