Windows Vista Activation RRS feed

  • Question

  • I just reformatted my hard drive and installed all my OS/Microsoft Office/drivers as well as my documents I had backed up. When I restarted my computer to finish installing updates, I received an error box: "Window Activation. An unauthorized change was made to Windows. You will no longer receive notifications, including those about your license or activation. Use the link below to find out how to fix your system."

The first time I got this, it was on a black screen and kept returning me to the log-in screen. I restarted my computer from there, and Windows loaded...and I got the message again. When I clicked on the link, it sent me to http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate/?OSV=6.0.6001.2.00010100.1.0.000.09.1033&RFM=2&LegitCheckError=C004D401. I clicked on the button "Validate Now" and it wanted to run a program. My computer warned me that "this type of file can harm your computer" so I discarded it and ran a search on similar problems. I ran the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool. Please tell me how to fix this issue. Here is what it found

  • I uninstalled my security programs. Then I installed all the updates....well, I'm still installing updates. However, now my computer works and I ran the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic program again. Here are the results:
