Reporting - looking to understand calculations RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have recently run a report of performance by investment account and the calculations don't make sense to me - though this may be lack of understanding.  I am looking for help guidance.

My report shows data such as value as of last year, value today.  I then have return for period which I would expect to be a calculation of todays value minus last years value.  Then I get a percentage return which should be a calculation of this figure as a percentage.

What I find is that most of the data fits into this model but I get some data points where the value in the return for period is different.  In my examples, there is little in the way of realised gain/losses (ie not much stock sold) but I do have some active transactions so there is some buying going on during this period.  Could this be the factor?

  • The return will include sales, but it also includes dividends/distributions.

Take a look at the Portfolio -- particularly the Total Return (TR) items.
