how to specify named instance of database on different server? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Alias to named instance does not work for installation process but in sql server management studio.

So how to specify server name in the case I have named instance sql1 on another server ABC with port 12345?

    abc\sql1,12345

    abc

    abc,12345

Seems MS always recommends using Alias/named instance but no detailed document on its own installation?

    thanks,

  • You can get around the SqlAgent issue by setting the IgnoreChecks registry value (see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/974584 - the article relates to a different issue, but contains the right information about the IgnoreChecks registry value)

  • seems abc\sql1,12345 working when setting up deployment option; but as the final step I still got:

SqlAgent$abc\sql1,12345 (SqlAgent$abc\sql1,12345) service is not running on the server abc.

I am pretty sure the installation account is in the local admin group on the sql server abc; also, the agent service is running on the sql server.

I also opend tcp/udp 445 on both servers.
