Asked by:
Dashboard.exe won't start on clients and server

Question
-
Hi,
I hope that someone is much more competent than I in finding a solution for my problem:
initially when trying to start dashboard.exe on the server as always the Windows Home Server 2011 logo shows.
And that's all. Nothing more is showing up.
On the clients I get at least the next two application error windows:
1. Dashboardexe: an unknown software exception (0xe0434352) in the application at location 0xfd5ea06d
2. Dashboard: an unexpected error prevented the Windows Home Server 2011 Dashboard from opening. Do you want to sign in again? Yes/No
On the server the event viewer reports this recurring error since this morning:
EventData Dashboard.exe 6.1.8800.16402 5115acc7 KERNELBASE.dll 6.1.7601.24117 5add22d4 e0434352 000000000001a06d 1a8 01d59493974867b1 C:\Program Files\Windows Server\Bin\Dashboard.exe C:\Windows\system32\KERNELBASE.dll d7b32882-0086-11ea-b3ad-00224d568a19
Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi,
Is there any change before such problem happens? Including Dashboard add-ins, application installation, .net framework change and etc.?
If so, if possible, please undo the change and check the result.
Besides, please confirm that if Dashboard Safe Mode is working. Also, please run “sfc /scannow” to check/repair system files.

Hi Eve,
no changes were made to the system. .net-framework seems to be up todate. Latest update was KB4524102 on 16. 10.2019. Dashboard Safe Mode is working in so far as a window opens that states the following add-ins are enabled:
Add-ins
Computer and Backup
Hard Drives
Home
Server Folders
Users
Nothing further happens after pressing the Continue-button.
sfc /scannow didn't change anything. Problem persists.
Do you have any further ideas?
Kind regards,
Haye

Hi,
Disable Add-ins during Dashboard Safe Mode, will it open the Dashboard successfully?
Create a new domain admin account and log on system using new account, confirm that if Dashboard can be opened.
If problem persists, please check log under “C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Server\Logs\dashboard.log”

Hi Eve,
i'm still with you but don't always find time to take a look at the problem.
Sadly the problem exists still. Even with a new administraor account the dashboard wouldn't start. The eventvwr listed the same initial error.
Can you please tell me what I should look for in the dashboard.log?
I really appreciate your support, Eve!
Kind regards,
Haye

Hi,
Search key word such as error, fail and etc. to find the log entry about the failure.
Besides, if problem still happens, re-install .net framework is worthy to have a try. Or, if there is available system backup recently, restore from backup is recommended.
