Lenovo ThinkPad X200 Windows 7 Professional: Now thinks it's not genuine. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Windows 7 Professional came with the laptop when I bought it new.

Over the last few days the Windows Genuine Advantage dialog has appeared with error code: 0x8004fe21

I would prefer not to loose several days of my life to installing everything from scratch. If there is anything I can do to fix it, please let me know.

    Many Thanks,

    Tim

  • There are several file tampers in your report, meaning that something has changed or corrupted those files and they do not match the file has that WAT expects to see. This can be caused by malware, or other file corruption. Please attempt the following, if the fail proceed to the third option for a FREE tech support incident.

    SFC/system restore

type cmd in the search box of the start menu, right click on the icon that appears and type sfc /scannow without the qoutes and press enter, allow SFC to run, reboot when directed. If you get any error messages write them down exactly as they appear. After rebooting go to www.microsoft.com/genuine and attempt to validate.

If that does not work then type system restore in the search box, click on the resulting program and follow the wizards prompts to restore to a previous point prior to the non-genuine status.

If that does not work then start a no cost wga tech support incident at the following link http://support.microsoft.com/gp/contactwga

  • Sorry for the tiny font. I don't know why it does that when I paste text on occasion.
