Suggestion when moving posts RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a suggestion and let me know if there is any value to this.

When appropriate we move posts between forums and sometimes the post
gets moved right away but there are instances when the posts are moved
after "x" hours or "y" days. The one thing I noticed is, when the post
is moved it still uses the initial forum post date and most likely gets
pushed to end of the 1st page or 2nd or older pages on the new forum.

The reason we move posts, is appropriate people will look at the problem
and help the OP resolve the issue. If the question is not listed on the
top of the page then I am less likely to catch the posts which are moved
and if its hidden between the posts I already looked and reviewed.

One such example is this one.

  • It is a very good suggestion, one I've been been keeping under my hat because there are so many other problems that need to be fixed first.  Moved threads fall in a black hole in the thread order on the forum view page, page #3 or 4, at best.  It ought to be easy to fix.  Theoretically.

  • The way round this is for the person moving the post to always first send a reply to the thread saying that he is moving it.

In that way the latest date will not be the date of the original post and thus the post will appear in page 1 of the forum it is moved to.

(I, too, using the method of going to pages 1, 2, 3 until there are no more unanswered posts / the time is past the time I last was in the forums, have been surprised by the sudden appearance on page 5 of an ancient unread post - it was a Moved one, of course)
