How to verify I have a genuine 2002 Office RRS feed

  • Question

  • I received an alert that there were patches to install.  After doing this I was told to verify I had genuine software. No problem since I do.  First I verified the Windows XP and this went smoothly.  It took only a few minutes to do.  When I tried to do the same thing for Office I kept being flipped back to the screen that tells people why it is important to have genuine software. Frustrating.  I've looked at the self help pages but mostly they refer to Office 2007 and 2003.   I've found this all very frustrating as I have a terminal cancer and am desperate to find ways to improve my chances of doing better than the gloomy predictions given me by my oncologist.  I want to do the right thing but I also want to get on with my life.  I just wish it was easier without all the hurdles that seem to be in place.

Please help me verify I have a genuine version of Office 2002.  I most definitely do.

  • Surfdog,

I have copied from a Stephen Holm post to another foum user who had similar symptoms.  Please follow the instructions and then post back to let us know how you did:

Thank you for visiting the Office Genuine Advantage (OGA) program forum. Your issue appears to be outside the scope of the OGA program forum. In an attempt to assist I would like to provide the following:

Open My Computer located on your desktop.

    Go to: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Data\

NOTE:  The application data file may be hidden. Use the Tools drop down menu do the following: Folder Options->View->Hidden Files and Folders->Show Hidden Files and Folders to show the folder. Please re-hide the files once you have completed all the steps.

Right click data.dat file, then click Delete.

The data.dat file is for Office, Not OGA.

Once the file has been deleted, open an Office application such as MS Word and activate it.

If product activation was successful try the Office Validation located here:
