Windows XP reinstall question on laptop RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello, my friend has a laptop that the hard drive died in, so there goes his recovery partition. Another friend bought a full copy of windows XP home not too long ago, and I thought i could use that disk, but use the CD-key that is on the COA on the bottom of the laptop, and reinstall on a new hard drive I put in. It didn't work (said CD-key was invaild). Any thoughts?

  • The OEM Product Key affixed to the laptop will only work with the laptop manufacturer's Windows XP recovery method.  Contact the laptop manufacturer and request their Windows XP recovery disc.
