Syncing more than 5GB with Live Desktop RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have two computers that have been P2P syncing 50GB between each other using Live Mesh for the past month.  What happens when I enable both computers (or one) to sync with the live desktop? Will anything happen to my two computer's data and syncing process, especially once the 5GB is filled up? Which files will fill up the 5GB first - the oldest ones, or most recently updated?  Thanks for the help.

  • Hi Josh,

If you include the Live Desktop in the sync operations for that data, 5GB will sync to the Live Desktop, and the rest will just continue to sync P2P.  I'm currently attempting to find out for you, though, which 5GB will sync (i.e., which files will sync first).  I'll update here as soon as I know. :)

<Update>  According to our devs, the oldest files should be the ones that sync to your Live Desktop first.  Of course, if your 50GB of data is in more than one folder, you can exercise some control over this by choosing which folders to begin syncing with your Live Desktop.  But, again, within a given Live Mesh folder, it should be the older files that sync first.  I hope that helps.

    Thanks,

    Ben.

  • Interesting question. I think that the sync will handle 5 gigs of data and then stop. However, which 5 gigs I can't begin to guess.
