MGATD Says Office is Genuine, but every time I start it, Windows says it isn't RRS feed

  • Question

  • When I fireup MS Word (Word from Office 2002 running over Windows XP), I receive a message that says that Office is not Valid
    I have downloaded the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool (1.9.0006.1) from the Microsoft site and run it.   This tells me that the product is Genuine.  Can you explain the inconsistency ?   FYI This product was purchased with my own money, but alas I cannot remember from which retailer I bought it)

  • Hello Gillardh,

    Thank you for visiting the Office  Genuine Advantage (OGA) program forum. I understand the inconvenience you are currently experiencing. We have seen numerous issues from customers who were provided a Volume License Key (VLK) on their computer that has either been blocked by Microsoft or generated by a fake product key code generator. WGA currently provides checks for these types of product keys and prompts the user to notify them of this situation. More invalid product keys are being identified daily and WGA is constantly refreshing its database with these newly identified product keys and immediately blocks them.

    OGA Data-->
    Office Status: 114 Blocked VLK 2

    As a rule, VL editions should not be sold to individual consumers. Businesses, schools and governments normally use VL editions for flexibility in installing many computers.  Also, Volume Licenses for Windows XP is Upgrade licenses ONLY and cannot be used as the original or base license for a new computer.  Gillardh challenged if this is a corporate system please ask your systems administrator to logon to the eOpen site (
    https://eopen.microsoft.com/EN/default.asp) and confirm what your company’s assigned VLK. If this computer is not a corporate system please uninstall Microsoft Office XP Professional with FrontPage.

    You have a couple options available. First you should have been given the option to "Get Genuine" when you failed OGA validation. Here you may purchase an OGA Kit from Microsoft and become genuine. Next you can take the software back where you made the original purchase and either request a genuine copy of Office or return your monies. Next I would recommend for you to file a piracy report by following the directions @ http://www.microsoft.com/piracy. Please locate "Reporting Piracy" in the upper left corner.

    Thank you

    Stephen

    There is NO inconsistency.  The report that you included in your first post is the output report of the mgadiag utility.  This section is reporting your Office XP as a nongenuine, widely pirated Volume Licensing installation:

    OGA Data-->
    Office Status: 114 Blocked VLK 2
    Microsoft Office XP Professional with FrontPage - 114 Blocked VLK 2
    OGA Version: Registered, 1.7.105.35
    Signed By: Microsoft
    Office Diagnostics: 025D1FF3-230-1

    You may be thinking that the mgadiag utility is reporting your Office XP as genuine.  The first tab for the utility's program window is for your Windows installation, and your installation of Windows XP Home is showing as Genuine on the first tab of the report.  Click the Office tab of the utility's program window to see that it is reporting Office as nongenuine.

    If you received a high quality counterfeit CD with your Office XP Pro purchase, you may qualify for the Complimentary Office Offer.  Please refer to the FAQ here:  http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/FAQ.aspx?displaylang=en#ID0EEPAC

  • Stephen,
    It's an interesting answer but it doesn't explain how one Microsoft utility tells me the software is genuine and another says it isn't: which was the actual question that I posed

    I understand that you are paid by Microsoft to say "Buy a new one" almost irrespective of the question being asked
    I compliment you on your assiduous approach and focus on the task.

    However, I certainly will not buy a new copy - I'm sure I couldn't get that version of Office anymore, and I don't want to have to grapple with all the "enhancements" Microsoft has introduced over the years.  It works perfectly adequately for me.  I'll just ignore the tiresome warnings.

    As for a piracy report, you may recall in my first post that I said I could not remember from where I had purchased the product (it was six years go, after all), so I'm afraid that's not possible.

    Anyway, thank you for your time.
