Unable to launch MS-MPI service using a service account RRS feed

  • Question

  • Are there are requirements for the user account used to launch MS-MPI service and also be able to run MPIEXEC command? Does the account need to have logon privileges on the machine. I have a added a domain service account to the "Logon as service" local policy and to MS-MPI service (7.0.12437.6) and  tried to launch the service on Windows Server 2012. It failed to start the service with a message "Login failed. This user isn't allowed to sign in to this computer." My understanding was a service account should be able to run services but why it requires  logon privileges on the machine. Thanks. Ram

  • Hi,

Can you quickly give us an overview of your requirements for the launching in your environment? The MSMPI Launch Service is designed to be run as Local System account and not as Domain Service Account. The user running mpiexec should have "Logon as a Service" privileges. The reason for this requirement is that the MSMPI Launch Service should be able to use the credentials of the user to perform a CreateProcessAsUser from the Local System account
