ICE Image Quality RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have been trying panos with Microsoft ICE, stitching files from a Sigma DP2M with a Foveon sensor, and I'm impressed, not so much with the ICE output at present, as with its potential. The files I use are of the highest quality, with a sharpness that I prefer (1 setting down from Sigma's sharpening norm, but still razor-sharp). I also prefer Sigma's approach to sharpening, to darken the dark side of a brightness edge rather than lightening the light side which produces coarse bright halos. Unfortunately ICE introduces its own sharpening of the kind which produces bright sharpening halos, and my panos have these Becke lines all over them. They look as if they were processed by with a Canon software (yuck!). ICE appearently offers no means of controlling sharpening. If only I could get rid of what I would consider to be over-sharpening artifacts, by getting control over sharpening, ICE would possibly be all I need. Anyone feel the same way?
