Setting up a Blogger account

    Question

  • I am having some trouble setting up Live Writer 2009 to work with my Blogger account. Upon entering my the web address for my Blogger account  (http://<MyName>/blogspot.com), and entering my username and password, as on my Blogger site itself, it consistently provides me with an error:

"The blog account could not be accessed with the specified username and password"

Now I made sure about the details, without success. Any advice?

  • This could be a typo in your message but you should be entering http://<MyName>.blogspot.com not http://<MyName>/blogspot.com

    Notice the . before blogpost.com

  • I believe someone else pointed out that with blogger, the correct address would actually be <myname>.blogspot.com.

I just had the same error message, however, and am a bit baffled.  I have one blog on blogger that works just fine with Live Writer 2009.  FOr that one, however, I use a google account, so my username is simple <accountname> without the google.com.  For a new one I set up on blogger, I used a live.com address as the username.  When I try to add the blog to Live Writer, I enter the full <name>@live.com  for the username, as well as the correct password, and I get the same error message you are referring to (cannot be accessed using the username and password I specified).  I don't know if this is a problem with Live Writer, Blogger, or the interface of the two.

Can anyone else shed any light on this?

    Thanks!

  • Haha!  Well, after playing with things a bit, found the following:
    1) Yes, you do need to be in the form, <<myname.blogspot.com
    2) Before Live Writer can add the blog and interface with it, the Login ID (usually the e-mail address used when you set up the blog) needs to be validated.

I found an e-mail from Blogger with a link for validating my e-mail.  Once I did that, Live Writer added he blog with no problem.  OK, I feel foolish...

  • Hey, I was having the same trouble.  Here is the solution, user name isnt user name, its user email.  So type in the email you used to sign up for blogger instead of the user name you used. ;)

  • I'm still having this issue.  I try to connect to my blogger account with WLW and I get the "The blog account could not be accessed with the specified username and password"

I've verified my blog addresss: http://rednexrants.blogspot.com
My user name is my email:  <myname>@hotmail.com
and I've validate that my password is correct.  I can log on to the blogspot page directly from the web, but it doesn't work thru live writer.  Any help would be appreciated, cause I've searched the net and found nothing.

  • hey everyone! i had the same problem as every one of you and was getting so annoyed and angry that WLW wouldn't let me connect my blog but i finally did it!

I know some people said using your e-mail (the one you would normally use to log in to Blogger with) as the usename doesn't work but i just tried it and it worked fine. For example the window in which you type all your details looked like this:

    URL of Blog

    http://www.<blognamehere>.blogspot.com - (without the < > obviously)

My Google Email (The E-mail address I use to log into Blogger)

    <username>@live.co.uk

    Password

    *****

    Hope this helps.

  • and for your reference

This is an OLD forum for Windows Live Writer; Microsoft will be shutting it down soon [to be read only]... But there's a NEW forum, with more activity and more Microsoft techs working it. I suggest you go there and resubmit your inquiry there...

    Here's the URL:
          http://windowslivehelp.com/forums.aspx?productid=9

But this is good information, and we appreciate it ...
