  • Hello wdmackie,

Microsoft Vista and Microsoft Office are two different products. If you have Vista, you do not automaticly get Office. Computer manufacturers often install a trial version of Microsoft Office.  If you are getting a prompt to type in a Product Key when opening a Microsoft Office program (Word, Excel, PowerPoint...so on), it is likely the trial period has ended and you'll need to purchase a license (product key) for Microsoft Office.

The product key affixed to the sticker on your computer, is for Windows Vista (the operating system) and not for Microsoft Office.

Please review the following for additional information:

If you are experiancing a Non-Genuine issue with Vista, please create a new thread with a Diagnostic Report

(to generate a Diagnostic Report, download and run the Genuine Diagnostics tool at this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012. Click "Continue" click the Windows tab, click the "Copy" button, then paste the report into the new thread)

  • Hi again wdmackie,

In your Diagnostic Report, there is a section for any office products found on your computer:

    OGA Data-->
    Office Status: 102
Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 - 100 Genuine
    OGA Version: Registered, 1.6.28.0
    Signed By: Microsoft
    Office Diagnostics: 77F760FE-153-80070002_7E90FEE8-175-80070002_025D1FF3-364-80041010_025D1FF3-229-80041010_025D1FF3-230-1_025D1FF3-517-80040154_025D1FF3-237-80040154_025D1FF3-238-2_025D1FF3-244-80070002_025D1FF3-258-3_B4D0AA8B-920-80070057

The 'Office Status:' of '102' means Trial Version
So your Diagnostic Report is telling me that you have a Genuine Trial version of Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007.

If you paid extra for a Full version of Office (to be added to your computer, when you bought it), the product key, for the Office, would be in the documentation that came with the computer.

If you have any additional Validation questions or problems with your Office program, please create a thread in the Office Validation Forum at http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/genuinevista/threads/

If you have any general question or problems with your Office, then one of the Office Newsgroups http://www.microsoft.com/office/community/en-us/FlyoutOverview.mspx would be your best source for information.

    Thank you,
    Darin SM

  • Thanks for the response Mr. Smith

I have looked up the information regarding sousing out if I have a trial version. I can't find any thing written on any dialog box,  in the banner or in the control panel uninstall section, where it reportedly  stats that even if you convert a trial version it will still stay trial version. Mine does not say trial version anywhere. When I click on the help button during the activation process it shows me where to find the product key and it was in fact in the area. Can you not tell from the previous information provided regarding what version I have.
