Searching for the word "microphone" returns zero results even though I can
browse to threads discussing and using the word microphone.
Use
Google web search. Seriously. BING still does not
support the inurl: search term attribute which you may find
essential to retrieve what you're thinking off. For example,
compare:
http://www.google.ca/search?num=30&hl=en&newwindow=1&rls=com..microsoft%3Aen-ca%3AIE-SearchBox&q=microphone+intitle%3Aphone+inurl%3Aforums+site%3Amicrosoft.com&meta=&cts=1270311915801&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=
(Google web search
for
microphone intitle:phone inurl:forums
site:microsoft.com
)
The same search with just forums instead
of inurl:forums returns some unwanted Support site hits so a
necessary refinement then is:
http://www.bing.com/search?q=microphone+intitle%3Aphone+forums+site%3Amicrosoft.com+-site%3Asupport.microsoft.com&form=QBRE&filt=all&qs=n&sk=
(BING search for
microphone
intitle:phone forums site:microsoft.com
-site:support.microsoft.com
)
but that still somehow misses Google's first
hit. FWIW I suspect BING is trying to be too smart and use the Meta
data that it probably knows about but that Google won't be using.
E.g. doing that and then searching for an "Answered question" or one which has
received some "votes" may miss some post that you remember
reading but which hasn't been marked up that way:
