How to restore LiveOne Care backup files when OneCare is discontinued?

Question

I have multi-mb of backed up files generated by LiveOne Care. When OneCare is discontinued ... will it be possible to restore any of these files? If so, what software will do it? If not, how do I reformat the backups so they will be accessable?Friday, September 11, 2009 8:16 PM

Before uninstalling One Care perform a custom restore to a folder on your external drive. You will then be able to drag and drop the files to the desired location when needed.

If the folder was on another drive and can still be accessed, you can install the OneCare restore tool to restore the backup:

So, my question is this. When my subscription ends in about 5 months, will I still be able to restore all of the OneCare Files I have on my external hard drives? Will OneCare in its inactive form allow for this? Instead, will the aforementioned restore tool accomplish this if needed? If not, what are the alternatives or steps necessary to avoid this situation or problem from occurring? Let me know what you can. Thanks.Friday, March 19, 2010 5:37 AM

No. When your subscription ends, you will need to remove OneCare as it will cease functioning. You can install and use the OneCare Restore Tool - http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/onecarebackupandrestore/thread/e5d686c8-762b-4b22-bc08-bfb93f911e57

So, if I understand this I can use the Restore Tool to retrieve the files even if I don't have Live OneCare still installed on my computer? Good to know. Thanks, very much for the reply.

Yes, that's exactly what the restore tool is for. And, it will install on Windows 7 for you to access older OneCare backups.
