Is there any way to initiate a sync by hand? How are sync's initiated/continued?

Question
-
I have a large folder (~13+ GB) with all of my photos shared between 2 computers. For size reasons, this folder is set to not sync with Live Desktop. All of the files actually exist in a folder on "laptop 1".
I originally setup the sync between "laptop 1" and "laptop 2" about 2 weeks ago. At this time, laptop 2 started downloading the files from laptop 1 as expected. I wasn't really paying attention to the download besides noting it was only going at about 300k a second (I realize one issue with mesh currently is that the speeds aren't as high as they could be).
This past Monday I went away on business and turned off laptop 1. Laptop 2 is my work laptop and was used all week. I added a couple files to the shared folder, even though it hadn't fully downloaded everything from laptop 1 (at the time, it looked like it had downloaded about 80% of the files from laptop 1).
I got home last night and booted up both laptops. Laptop 2's additional files were downloaded to laptop 1 as expected. I went to sleep.
This morning I woke up expecting that at least some more progress would have been made downloading more of the photos from laptop 1 to laptop 2, but I realized it doesn't look like it has downloaded any more. There are a ton of "Live Mesh Placeholder File"s on laptop 2 as I'd expect, but it just doesn't seem like its making any attempt to continue downloading.
So, my questions are: 1) Is there any way that I can tell mesh to continue syncing? 2) How does mesh actually know when to continue syncing on its own?
Love the product so far...tons of potential. Just hoping it can get over a few more "humps".
Thanks,

If sync is stuck for you, please file a bug with logs:

There is no way to initiate a sync manually. Do you have any conflicts shown for that folder?

I also saw something like this. In my first attempt at syncing I tried moving a large amount of music files (over 600mb) from desktop to laptop. I had only a dozen pictures, mainly wallpapers, in the pictures folder. After nearly 2 days all syncing stopped. Only a fraction of the music was transferred with the rest as unusable placeholders with a .wlx extension. Fully half the wallpapers did not transfer, only placeholders.
I redid everything and transferred files by usb. Now the occasional syncs go without a hitch. i might add all favorites, documents, and an extremely large collection of cisco and server certification materials,as well as a large group of tech support software, all transferred without a bug, albeit very slowly.
Question is: is the mesh having a problem with certain file types? Or, is it the amount of these file types? Or, are these file types more difficult to read accurately and transfer? i would not have thought of it if not for this topic being opened.
Is any one else having a problem with audio, video,or picture formats?

Assuming conflicts appear in either the "Folders", "Devices" or "News" sections, no, I have no conflicts. I haven't received any "conflict popup" or anything like that either.
If i manually copy these files, what will happen to the placeholders? I feel like that would just confuse Live Mesh even further.

One word of advice. before you change anything manually, remove the machine from the mesh. Found that out the hard way. After you finish your changes then rejoin it to the mesh. To make my self clear, do not just disable the mesh on local machine, remove it from the mesh all together. It will re sync after it is rejoined. Just a word from my experience.

Yesterday morning, Live Mesh began syncing again. Not sure why it wasn't for the 2 days before that.
I realize there's certainly something to be said for the KISS methodology, but it would be nice to have a bit more information on this. Maybe just something indicating "% sync'd" for the given node or something to that nature, just to let the user know that it is aware that it still has syncinng to do.
A "sync now" button would be awesome, too.Tuesday, March 3, 2009 7:38 PM -

Hi,
Please be sure to add your vote for the features you mention to our Suggestions sticky - the ability to force synchronization, for example, is one of our most popular requests.
