Windows XP installation CD-ROM missing and now needed RRS feed

  • Question

  • I bought a computer from U-Bid that came with Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 pre-installed. I have the product key, but there was no CD to reinstall XP included with the system. Is there somewhere I can download the CD?

  • Hello Marlian,

If this is a computer from a name-brand manufacturer, contact that manufacturer's customer service to see if you can order Recovery/Reinstallation disc(s).

If the computer is from a smaller manufacturer/systembuilder, you can request replacement discs from that smaller manufacturer/systembuilder.  If the smaller manufacturer/systembuilder is not known or no longer in business, please refer to this MS KB http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/326246 and scroll down to the section "Media replacement for users of system builder's computers" and click on the link correspoding to your region for ordering information.

Microsoft does not make any edition of Windows XP Media Center Edition available for download to the general public.  Under no circumstances should you use a downloaded and burned copy of any Windows XP Operating System not obtained directly from Microsoft's web site.   The integrity of these copies cannot be assured, and Microsoft's research shows that a large percentage of these copies have embeded malicious programs within the files of the download.
