Installing VIA USB / Problem with NIC Driver RRS feed

  • Question

  • Just built my 1st computer and 1st server using WHS 2011.
I did it all via USB and had some hiccups but ironed them out.

It's an AMD chip w/onboard graphics.  No NIC card.

The OS installed but upon reboot I get the message that there is no NIC and I need to install drivers.

I put the drivers disc that came w/the MB on a flash drive and pointed device manager to it.  OS starts to install and then says it encountered a problem while installing, names the driver, and then says file not specified.

I figured I could reboot and run setup.exe to install the drivers but I only get 3 seconds before I'm back too the 'we need a NIC'.  Stuck in a loop.

Is this a case of the driver being incompatible?   It's Realtek PCIe GBE family.

Encountered and got over many obstacles so far in this build but I'm stuck.

////Tried the Realtek 2003 driver but got the same result.

////////UPdate - I got out of the 'We need a NIC' screen by hitting alt f4.  This allowed me to get to the desktop to try some drivers.

  • I found some drivers that worked.   I assumed the other drivers were 64 bit but they were did not say 32 nor 64.  The ones that worked were specifically 64bit.

Not sure how to get this thread answered.
