Redfile error RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have been having trouble backing up my computers.  I get an error of the form:

"An error ocurred reading or writing from server storage.
    D:\folders\{000 . . . . . .}\GlobalCluster.4096.dat"
    Readfile
    23

When I check the event log I find errors like:

Faulting application whsbackup.exe, version 6.0.2030.0, faulting module whsbackup.exe, version 6.0.2030.0, fault address 0x000620fe

I have run CHKDSK on the D: drive and it reports no errors.

Is this maybe a software problem or a disk problem?

    Thanks for any advice.

  • Ran the script.  No errors found on either C: or D:.  Tried a backup again, got the same error about not being able to read or write the GlobalCluster file.  I see it in the directory, and it was "last updated" at the time I was running the backup.  Any thoughts?

    Thanks

Do you have more than 1 hard drive in your server?  If so, Ken's chkdsk script should have checked more than the C and D partitions on the primary drive.  If you only have one hard drive (or you're sure you ran Ken's script correctly and it checked all of the hard drives in your server), you'll probably have to delete your backup database and start a fresh one.  You can delete the entire backup database by logging into the server desktop and deleting everything inside D:\folders\{00008086-058D-4C89-AB57-A7F909A47AB4}.  You should probably also stop the backup service before doing that.  You can find the instructions on which services to stop and how to do it in the Home Computer Backup and Restore Technical Brief.

  • Please follow the instructions in the FAQ How to check all the drives in your server for errors. Get back to us with any errors that may have been detected.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
