What's the deal with Acer product keys? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I work in computer repair, and I've got 5 acer laptops, all of which don't have working product keys on their stickers that don't work with technet OEM discs.

I just recovered the product key from the registry of a Vista Home Premium, which did not match the sticker (as expected.. different key from the factory).. but that key works great with the technet discs.

I have HPs, Dells, Compaqs, Toshibas, none of them have this issue. What's going on here? I've got acer customers with failed drives, and ACER won't help them.

What has ACER done to the OEM software that only their version of vista accepts the sticker product key? Clearly there is an ACER version of vista, as the vanilla technet OEM does not accept ACER keys.

This needs to be explained in a better way than "oh it's acer's problem" because acer is silent on the issue despite repeated attempts of contacting them.
