    I'm looking to get the MOS Excel 2016 Expert certification (Exam 77-728), but I don't know if I need to take the MOS Excel 2016 exam (Exam 77-727) first. I am aware that you need to know everything in 77-727 in order to pass 77-728, but are you required to pass 77-727 in order to take 77-728? Or can I just take Exam 77-728 without having taken Exam 77-727?

    No it's not. 

    All you need to know to pass 77-728 is contained in the syllabus for that exam.
