You have an MSDN Key for Win 7.
    Your (legal) options are:-
    1) revert back to the original OS, preferably using the manufacturer's recovery disks.
    2) purchase a Full Retail copy of Windows 7 Home Premium from a reputable store, and use the Key from that
    3) revert back to Vista, then use a legal  Upgrade copy of Win 7 to bring the machine up to scratch - pick your own edition of Win 7 in this case (i.e. Home Premium, Pro, or Ultimate).
    4) Purchase a Full Retail copy of any edition of Win 7 and clean install it.

Note that since you have a counterfeit install, it's impossible to say that the machine is totally free of malware unless you do a reformat/reinstall.

  • Thanks Noel.

I feared as much. I bought the laptop from someone who had bought it from someone else and Win 7 was already on it.

    What does 'MSDN key' mean?
