windows service pack1 sound problems

  after I installed windows service pack 1 my sound card started acting strange,  I could play cds/dvds and music that I downloaded  but windows sounds and audio over the internet stopped working.

  I did a new install of windows vista ulta.  and got everything back . Now my updates wants to load service pack 1 again but I need to know if the problem is fixed before I reload it.
