How to tell MT to ignore some tags? RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Hello

Before translation, I replace some portions of sentences by some special tags <t1>, <t2>, ... After translation, the tags are then replaced by the original sentence. The goal is that MT do not translate these portions of sentences.

    Example:

Original: Hello, my sentence contains some special thinks like [red] into brackets

If I directly translate into french: Bonjour, ma phrase contient des trucs spéciaux comme [rouge] dans des crochets.

So, "red" is translated into "rouge". and I do not want that. I want to keep [red].

So, I preprocess: Hello, my sentence contains some special thinks like <t1> into brackets.

The translation:Bonjour, ma phrase contient des trucs spéciaux comme <t1> dans des crochets.

then I postprocess: Bonjour, ma phrase contient des trucs spéciaux comme [red] dans des crochets.

It works perfectly from french to english.

But with french to spanish, the <t1> is moved. It's never the same behaviour. It seems MT try to interprete the tag.

So what is the solution to tell MT to ignore certain tags?

    THANKS
