OneCare 2.0 Update problems

Question
-
I am the IT manager for a small business with 15 PCs running OneCare 1.6xx.
Today two of the PCs updated to OneCare 2.0 while I was out of the office. I had no knowledge that the upgrade had taken place.
I got panic calls saying that these two updated PCs could not access the server for accounting and database software data files.
After trying several things on the phone, I decided that I needed to make a rush office visit.
After checking the OneCare firewall settings I noticed that OneCare was now updated to 2.0. The firewall settings were set to "Public Access" and therefore the network connectivity had been turned off durning the automatic update. I set the firewall to "Home/Office" and the network sharing was turned back on.
So, my questions are:
How do I manually update my other PCs from OneCare 1.6 to 2.0 to prevent this problem from happening again?
Why wasn't I notified by e-mail that the updates were about to happen?
Why doesn't the OneCare 2.0 update keep ALL my OneCare settings?
Thanks for your help!

Hello, Bill. You've raised some valid concerns. I witnessed my wife's update this evening. (I'm using the beta and she has a paid subscription that just got the update today.) Upon completion of the update, the initial configuration asks the user to identify the network as private or public and defaults to public. It also has to have the user review the backup plan and also offers to allow the user to promote the PC to hub status in the Circle.
There was an announcement in the forums and also on the team blog about the 2.0 release, but no message was sent t OneCare users as a notification that I am aware of. I think that this is good feedback and Microsoft should consider using the notification within OneCare and/or send an email to the LiveID for the subscription announcing the major updates.
The reason settings could not be retained for many areas was that this is a pretty major update. The methodology used by the firewall and also for backup has changed pretty significantly, causing the need for the first run experience.

After you update the Onecare software, and restart the computer, you need to download the CaclsDeleteDB.cab from Microsoft than use it to fix the update and settings issues.

I got no hits for "CaclsDeleteDB.cab" when searching Microsoft or Goggle. Anyway I am not in the habit of installing or replaceing files without a good details for why I would want to do so. Thanks for your effort.

Steve...
Similar situation. Two of my 3 computers received to 2.0 update automaticly and are now running. The one that I want to use as the "hub" for backups DID NOT RECEIVE the update.
Do I merely need to wait a while or did I install some other form of OneCare on this PC. (I may have installed a 2.0 Beta... how can I tell?)
Thanks! -Chuck

Ditto Chuck,
One updated, the other didn't. What is up?

If it is v1.6, it hasn't updated yet and should update soon. You can uninstall and reinstall to get the latest version and make it a hub, though.
If it is a beta copy, you can tell by opening OneCare and clicking on Help/Send Feedback. If the resulting page says Beta on it, you've got the 2.0 beta.

Dear Billk,
I am sorry to bother you but I think that you may know how to help me.
First, I am not a tech person. I am just a professor, who uses OneCare.
Last week, after my computer was updated, I realized that the computer cannot start the Security setting service, the Firewall is always off, and it looks that my computer just got crazy…
I really do not understand much what is going on, so I went to the Discussion Forum. I read a few messages and understand that I have the same problem that other people but I do not know what to do and how to fix it.
Do know anything about it? It really interferes with my work. I am teaching some course online and due to the current OneCare problem, my computer gets slow than usual.
I already posted one message to the Forum but I didn't see any answers.
Thank you in advance,
Elena

Elena, I'm sorry your post was overlooked, but you posted to the off topic folder. I just moved it to this topic folder. However, the answer will be the same to it as here:
Please contact OneCare support for help with this problem.
How to reach support - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2421771&SiteID=2
If it fails to validate your subscription, select the option that you are using a trial or beta copy and you can proceed to email support without validation once you've signed in.
