SyncToy Folder Exclusion RRS feed

  • Question

First off, excellent tool. Thank You!

I like being able to check individual folders to exclude, but is it possible we can get the ability to put a filter on folders like you can files?

This is the only reason im having to use another tool at this point...i want to sync my Vs.NET Projects to a thumb drive and i dont want to copy bin & obj folders. Without the filters though, i have to go in every time i add a project and exclude the folders which is a pain Smile In all sync i can exclude all bin and obj folders...

  • Currently there is no filter support for folder exclusion.

The filter concept is mainly used for a bunch of files with similar pattern (like name or suffix)

For folder, the filter may be helpful but the use seems to be limited because mostly people want to select individually for folders.

But it's a good option to consider in the future.

  • dont get me wrong. I like having the ability to select the folder in which i want to exclude. But the having the filter as well is very beneficial. The example i gave above is just one...Another would be on files you have commited to source control such as word documents. Subversion for example puts .svn folders in each directory. It would be A LOT easier to use a folder filter to exclude all .SVN folders, then trying to remember to select each .SVN folder i want to exclude every time i add a new folder...

I hope you guys implement this cuase it really is a good tool and this would make it much better!

  • Hello,

I was searching to see if it was possible to exclude the .svn folders.  I realize there is no way to filter them out specifically, however you are able to filter them out since they're hidden/system files.  I set my partnership up to ignore those and it seems to be doing the job so far.  A filter for directories would be nice like the file exclusion filter.
