Which DSVM are you using (Linux or Windows) and why? RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Very keen to learn from the community about their specific OS preferences for DSVM and the reasons behind their choices (specifics are always very helpful).

  • Personally, I use both because some specific features are only available on one of the edition and not the other. For example on Windows, I really like the Visual Studio tools and the various extensions for the Azure data services like SQL Server data tools, Data Lake, HDInsight. On Linux DSVM, I love JupyterHub (which is not available on Windows) which I  use when I have  to run data science training sessions on a shared server for multiple participants. It is also nice that I can still use many of the Unix/Linux utilities like shell, grep, find, awk etc even when I am on the Windows edition on the command prompt or git-bash. So I dont feel like I miss my favorite (and powerful) command line tools when I am on the Windows VM.
