Office XP suddenly fails validation RRS feed

  • Upon trying to check for Office XP updates I encountered a screen that indicated my copy of Office XP was of questionable lineage (Microsoft Office XP Standard: Product Not Activated[0x80180101].

    I followed the steps in "Sticky: Where do I get started?" wherein it also indicated "...  OGA Data-->
    Office Status: 101 Not Activated  ..."

    I had no trouble getting Office XP updates in Oct. '08, Sept. '08, Aug. '08, and earlier.  However, in Oct. '08 there was also an update for "Windows Genuine Advantage Notification (KB905474)" --could this have caused the problem?

    When I open an Office XP application and simply try to activate it, I and told it is already activated.

    How do I resolve this issue??

    Thank you for visiting the Microsoft Office Genuine Advantage (OGA) program forum.  Your issue is related to Windows Product Activation.  In an attempt to assist I would like to provide some information which may or may not help.

    From the Desktop:

    1.

    Click Start,  All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and then Activate Windows.

    Or, click the Windows Activation icon in the taskbar notification area next to the clock.

    2.

    Click Yes, I want to telephone a customer service representative to activate Windows now.

    3.

    Click Read the Windows Product Activation Privacy Statement, click Back, and then click Next.

    4.

    Follow the steps in the “Activate Windows by phone” dialog box, and then click Next.

    Note The number appears now and differs based on the location that you select.

    5.

    When activation is completed and you receive the following message:

    You have successfully activated your copy of Windows

    Then click OK.

  • Antron, thank you for responding; however, I could not get past your Step #1
    a) I do not have an 'Activate Windows' shortcut in 'System Tools"
    b) I do not have a 'Windows Activation' icon in the taskbar (and it is not being hidden).

    Also, your response seems to be directed toward resolving an activation problem with 'Windows'.  Please note that I am having a problem with 'MS Office XP'.

    As noted in the WGA diag tool dump above,  Win XP Pro did validated as Genuine:
         (Validation Status: Genuine);

    yet MS Office did not:
        (Office Status: 101 Not Activated
         Microsoft Office XP Standard - 101 Not Activated

    When I open an Office XP application and simply try to activate it, I am told it is already activated.



    Please advise.

    It worked!!!

    Thank you very much, I changed the name of the file (rather than just delete it initially) upon opening WORD I was immediately presented with the activation wizard.  Followed the wizard screens and successfully activated it in less than a minute.  The WGA diag tool now shows:
       Office Status: 100 Genuine
       Microsoft Office XP Standard - 100 Genuine

    And, I can successfully access the Office Update site.

    Curiously, the (original) data.dat file time/date shows 2/28/2003 as the (last) modification date.  Any idea how the file got corrupted.
