Homegroup redundancy? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've been having nightmares with homegroup shares.  What I would like is to simply have HomeServer show up under the Homegroup and have my folders shared that way.  However, I'm getting two separate machines - first Administrator and its shares and then HomeServer and its shares.

Is there a way to fix this?  I'm assuming that if I use the dashboard to share a folder via "ServerFolder" then that falls under the HomeServer.  But if I do it via Windows Explorer, right click, share with Group then that shows up under Administrator.  The challenge is that sometimes I can't access files if I just share them via the Dashboard method.  I have to share them via Windows Explorer - which then adds a second machine to the Homegroup.

  • Using the homegroup overides permissions set in the dashboard shares.

There are many posts to that effect.
