I passed 70-316 couple of years ago. How to get a MCPD? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello Folks
I passed  70-316 couple years ago ( Just one exam) . I would like to do MCPD.

Do I get any benefit of 70-316 ( other than knowledge)  when I do MCPD?  If any
of you can suggest me a best way to do MCPD in such a way that I can make use
of my 70-316, I will appreciate it greatly.

    thanks

  • Hi Gulumal,

That is my preferred method, probaby better to do 3.5 exams, if you were using this to learn 2.0/3.5 I would probably do 2.0 first as there is useful material in 2.0 not covered in the 3.5 exams.

Not all the microsoft cert books are out, are you aiming for MCPD Windows, ASP.NET or Enterprise?

    Regards,

    Geoff

  • Hello Geoff

    Thank you for your reply.

I'm planning  MCPD Windows and probably do Enterprise too, being my area of
work.   It seems like it doesn't matter MCPD 2005 or 2008,  70-536 is common to both.
So I'm starting to prepare for that next week onwards.

A problem is that I cannot see any books or anything for 70-563. That makes
me a lil confused.  For 2005 everything is readily available. I think I'm gonna
wait for couple of months, meanwhile do 70-536. Since 536 is applicable both 2005
and 2008, its good to do that first. Also 70-505 is available too.

    thanks

  • Hi Gulumal,

Good plan, if the 70-563 guide does not come out you can you use the 2005 guide and just look up the missing bits on the MSDN.  I did this without issue to pass 563 (in beta).

  • Hi gulumal,

The short answer is no, you would have to complete MCSD or MCAD to get any benefit, and these exams are retiring this month.  So your easiest course of action is to start again, either on 2.0 Framework or 3.5 Framework.

  • Hello Geoff
Thank you very much for answering.

So in that case, its better to do 3.5 framework since its the latest one? Isn't it?

What would be the most cost efficient method to buy study materials?  For my
other exam I bought a book and measureitup test. I prefer self studying.

    thanks

  • Hello Geoff
      Thanks again for your suggestion.

Are these exams also multiple choice/objective kinda questions or something
more? Could you shed some light on it?

    thanks

  • Hi Gulumal,

Yes, they are mainly multiple choice, and also some check two or three options that apply (they tell you the number of answers they expect).
There may be a diagram that you have to drag-and-drop something on but not many like that.
The measureup tests (including those supplied with guide) are a realistic indicator of the type of questions you will get.

    Good Luck

    Geoff
