Where Can I find the Office 2003 product key on the computer? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

I use Outlook 2003 on my Vista, Laptop PC, but your validation checker tells me it isn't genuine. Funny enough it tells my the free download of MS PowerPoint 'Reader' from the MS website isn't genuine as well He he.

Anyway, I wanted to check the product key on my computer with the printed one I got with the software.

I only have Outlook on my computer - not the other 'full' office packages. I got the key for outlook with Small Business Server. I didn't install outlook, it was done by the computer guys who put in the computer system (no longer in business).

But... we have a licence for 5 users, and only use 3. The other 2 machines are passing the validation check, it's just my laptop that's failing.

Can someone tell me where to look on the computer, or do you have some special MS tool that can tell me what it it. Of course, after I find the key out, I'm not sure what to do then, no matter if it right or wrong :(

It shows that at the moment you have a nongenuine Volume Licensing installation of Office 2003 Pro on the computer.

Since your only concern is to use Outlook, let's do the following steps, which will get rid of the nongenuine Office 2003 suite and install your genuine Outlook from SBS.:

    1.  Backup Outlook data and settings by following the info in this MS KB article:  http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/287070

    2.  In Control Panel>Programs, choose Uninstall a Program and uninstall Office 2003 Professional.  Restart twice.

    3.  Visit www.microsft.com/genuine and click on the Validate Office button to clear the OGA Notifications cache.

    4.  Use the genuine hologrammed Microsoft Outlook CD that came with Small Business Server to install Outlook on your computer.

    5.  Open Outlook once, dismiss the setup wizard, activate it, then close Outlook.  Restart, then revisit www.microsft.com/genuine and click on the Validate Office button.  Your should be told that all programs are valid.

    6.  Run Windows Updates within Vista, and if it asks you to download updates for other Microsoft programs, click OK.  Keep searching for and installing updates until it reports there are no more.

    7.  When Outlook is fully updated, open it up and then follow the MS KB instructions for bringing your data and settings into the new installation.

  • From your MGA report:

    OGA Data-->
Office Status: 114 Blocked VLK 2
Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 - 114 Blocked VLK 2

Unfortunately, the installed copy of Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003, which includes Microsoft Outlook 2003, is non-genuine.  The software license is for a Volume License and has been reported to Microsoft, by the original owner, as having been lost, stolen or misused.  As a result, the product key has been blocked from further use.

Visit Microsoft Genuine Advantage and click on Validate Office.  When validations fails, look for the Get Genuine button to review your options.

    Many thanks for your help.

    One problem though...

I looked through the box of stuff that was left with the computers - discs, documentation etc, and the MS Server disc is not there. The documentation is there: Client Access Licence, Licence Terms, Getting Started Guide and the MS Product Identifier sticker with the product keys for both the server and outlook. But no disc.

The MS offer mentioned by Carey Frisch can't send me a disc unless I send them mine, and as I don't have one...

Is there anywhere on MS site that I can download Outlook 2003?

    Thanks
