Windows 7 Genuine Advatage Validation Issues RRS feed

  • Question

  • On Friday my computer did its normal update and now it is saying that my copy of windows 7 is not Genuine.  I purchased this upgrade back in Jan and had it authenticated on line.  I have run the Diagnostic Tool and it says that it is not Genuine.  What to do?

Your BIOS does not have the appropriate SLIC table present - because it was produced earlier than either Vista or Win 7 were released.
Your installation is of an OEM_SLP license, which relies on the right SLIC table being present to self-activate the license.
    Your install is non-genuine.
For what version and edition of Windows is your computer licensed, according to the COA sticker on the case?

AFAIK, there's no such thing? (but I could be wrong - wouldn't be the first time)

    You need to either
    1) reinstall the original licensed OS using the manufacturer's Recovery Disk set
    or
    2) purchase a legal Full Retail license for Win 7 from a reputable store.

  • That may be the fourth release of Windows XP Media Center Edition (Emerald).  It rtm'd in October, 2005 and that would be MSFT's fiscal year 2006.  MCE was always OEM.
