Windows is not genuine problem, already did diagnostics RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have been using a win7 laptop for years, it is retired from my work last year. From recently each time I start the machine, it says I need to activate the windows, after I come into windows ( I just click off the warning ), there is warning at the right bottom of the screen, windows 7 build 7601 this copy is not genuine. Another symptom is there often a pop-up saying the windows is conterfeit.

Some people had this problem, I see the suggestion is to run a diagnotic tool and report back the result, so I did the diag and here is the result as following, could you suggest how to proceed from here?

    Thanks a lot!

  • Your machine has a KMS License for Windows 7 Enterprise installed. Such licenses are only for use within the organisation to which the license was issued, and should have been uninstalled and reverted to the original OS prior to being 'retired'. The License is required to re-activate at least every 180 days against the issuing organisation's own KMS Host Server , and it's the failure to do this that has caused your notification.

    You should either

    1) revert back to the original Vista Business install with which I suspect the machine was shipped (check the COA sticker)  using the manufacturer's Recovery media - which you may be able to order form them direct

    or

    2) Purchase a an Upgrade copy of Windows 7 of whichever edition you are likely to actually need, and then clean install that, using the method bere..... http://www.winsupersite.com/article/windows-7/clean-install-windows-7-with-upgrade-media
